Tax Preparation, Accounting & Financial Advisory Services | Atlanta, Georgia
Magellan Tax, LLC was established in 2004 and has operated actively in the Atlanta market since 2009, growing into a trusted tax preparation, compliance, and advisory practice serving individuals, families, and closely held businesses throughout the metro area.
The firm was led by Henry Spil, CPA, CFA, whose career included leadership roles in public accounting and at Bank of America, where he managed a trust tax department processing thousands of returns annually. That background gave the practice deep specialization in complex tax situations including trust taxation, high-net-worth planning, and multi-generational wealth transfer.
Magellan Tax also worked in an integrated relationship with Magellan Financial Planning, led by J. Kevin Meaders, J.D., CFP®, allowing clients to access coordinated tax and wealth-planning guidance through one personalized relationship.
The catalyst for the sale was straightforward: after decades in tax and trust work, the owner was ready to retire. But rather than pursue an abrupt exit, he wanted a transaction that would preserve client relationships, protect the firm's small staff, and maintain the personalized service model clients had come to expect.
That meant finding more than a buyer with capital. The right partner needed to support a gradual handoff and allow the seller to remain involved on a reduced schedule during a multi-year transition.
With the transaction led by Dealmaker Bob Cool, Sunbelt Atlanta built a targeted universe of strategic and financial acquirers active in tax preparation, accounting, and wealth advisory services.
The process engaged 28 qualified buyers under strict confidentiality, helping protect Magellan Tax's clients, referral partners, and staff throughout the marketing period.
That focused outreach produced a letter of intent from a buyer whose growth strategy, service philosophy, and willingness to accommodate the seller's retirement timeline aligned with ownership's priorities. The transaction moved from launch to close in just four months.
Ownership selected T3A Tax, LLC after evaluating what the buyer could offer beyond price. T3A's customer-focused philosophy aligned closely with Magellan Tax's own model, and the buyer welcomed the seller's desire to remain involved on a contract basis while easing into retirement over approximately one to two years.
T3A already served more than 400 clients and viewed Magellan Tax as a strategic platform for continued growth. The acquisition also created an opportunity to connect T3A's existing client base with complementary financial planning and estate-related services, broadening the relationship beyond tax preparation alone.
The transaction closed against a backdrop of sustained growth in financial advisory and tax services. Increasing tax complexity, rising wealth creation, and broader adoption of technology-enabled platforms continue to support demand for firms offering integrated tax, estate, and wealth-planning capabilities.
Metro Atlanta's large and growing population of individuals, closely held businesses, professionals, and affluent households provides a favorable backdrop for specialized tax and advisory firms, particularly as clients face increasingly complex issues involving multiple income streams, stock compensation, estate planning, and multi-generational wealth transfer.
