Pediatric Speech-Therapy Technology & Medical Devices | San Francisco, California
Speech Buddies, Inc. was founded by mechanical engineer Alexey Salamini and practicing speech-language pathologist Gordy Rogers to create a better way to teach children correct articulation.
Together, they developed patent-protected intraoral tactile-biofeedback tools that allow children to feel, rather than simply hear, the correct tongue placement for the five sounds most commonly involved in childhood articulation disorders: R, S, L, CH, and SH.
The company built a first-in-class position in pediatric speech-therapy technology, serving Speech-Language Pathologists in school and clinical environments as well as families reinforcing therapy at home. Its Speech Buddies Connect marketplace also linked parents with a nationwide network of more than 7,000 ASHA-certified speech-language pathologists.
By the time Speech Buddies came to market, its founders had moved on to other professional endeavors and were no longer active in day-to-day operations.
Rather than wind the business down or sell simply to the first available buyer, ownership wanted a new steward with the resources and motivation to reinvigorate the brand, expand its reach, and carry forward the company's mission of helping more children and families.
With the transaction led by Dealmaker Raquel Wilson, Sunbelt Atlanta built a targeted buyer universe spanning pediatric healthcare, medical products, and consumer-health technology.
Over a 5.5-month process, the engagement reached 27 qualified buyers under strict confidentiality, protecting Speech Buddies' brand, customer relationships, and competitive position throughout the marketing period.
The process ultimately converged on one highly aligned letter of intent. In this transaction, precision mattered more than raw bid volume: the right buyer already had an adjacent pediatric healthcare platform and a clear strategic rationale for owning Speech Buddies.
Ownership selected Inspiration Medical Technology because of the strategic alignment between Speech Buddies and Pehratek, a pediatric-audiology device brand acquired by Inspiration Medical Technology in 2023. Pehratek serves audiologists, ENT practices, hospitals, and pediatric clinics—an ecosystem with clear overlap to Speech Buddies' network of school- and clinic-based Speech-Language Pathologists.
Inspiration Medical Technology viewed Speech Buddies as a complementary pediatric-health brand that could sit alongside Pehratek. Together, the brands broaden the buyer's platform supporting children's hearing, communication, and speech-skill development while preserving Speech Buddies' established mission.
Speech Buddies entered the sale process with much of the infrastructure buyers need to evaluate a medical-products platform with confidence already in place.
The transaction closed against a backdrop of sustained growth in pediatric speech therapy and communication-health technology. Demand is supported by a large recurring patient population and by increasing adoption of tools that blend hands-on therapy, digital resources, and teletherapy.
Funding is diversified across schools, self-pay families, and insurance, while adjacent opportunities in language learning, accent reduction, and other communication-support categories create additional room for specialized therapy platforms to expand beyond their core pediatric market.
